Liberia is home to over 184,000 documented orphans, many of which have been were abandoned, have lost both parents due to war or disease, or suffered severe neglect and abuse. Children are often used as panhandlers, servants, street vendors, prostitutes, workers on rubber tree plantations, in stone quarries or other means of hard labor. Numerous children are victims of trafficking in Liberia, often times by members of their own family. A shortage of orphanages has caused a large influx of children living in the streets, especially in Monrovia (the capital) and without the means to meet their basic needs these children are consistently exposed to violence, trafficking and sexual exploitation.
His Hands for Liberia has established a sponsorship program through which you can sponsor an orphan or vulnerable child in Liberia to help pay their living expenses and to help them attend school. $25.00 per month will help pay for the living expenses of an Liberian orphan (Home Sponsorship) - providing them with food, clothing, shelter and medical expenses. Then another $25.00 per month will help pay for them to attend school (School Sponsorship) - providing them with a uniform and all educational materials. [please note - Two sponsors are required for each child in order to cover both their living expenses and their educational expenses.]
Sponsors receive a photo and personal information about the child they are helping including information about how to correspond with their child, if they choose to do so. Sponsors can choose the age and/or gender of the child they would like to sponsor and may continue to sponsor the same child from year to year, as long as the child remains in the program. 100% of the sponsorship payment goes directly to Liberia. None of it is used to cover the administrative expenses of this program here in the US.
Sponsoring a child in Liberia is truly a blessing not only to the child, but to the sponsor as well. If you would like information about how you can sponsor an Liberian child, please contact us.
